The Gold Coast Institute of TAFE (GCIT)
The Gold Coast Institute of TAFE (GCIT) is one of Australia's leading vocational education facilities. Courses have been designed in close consultation with business and industry ensuring industry-relevant skills and knowledge for our graduates. Our graduates enter the workforce with relevant, practical skills. Graduates choosing to move into University studies from GCIT find themselves well-grounded in technical understanding, and ready to take on the higher level theory components of their chosen field of study.
The history of GCIT dates back to February 1976, with only four vocational courses and 269 students. Twenty-six years later GCIT is one of the biggest TAFE Institutes in Queensland with four campuses, offering vocational courses and an enrolment of over 15,000 students.
In recent years GCIT has turned its attention to the development of emerging educational trends and technologies. 1996 saw the opening of GCIT's $25 million campus of the 21st century at Southport. Located in the heart of the Gold Coast's central business district and only metres from the beach, this campus is designed to make education more accessible and flexible, with some 230 computer terminals available for students to discover learning in the e-world (GCIT website).
